At this point in my life I had just about given up on people. Honestly, I have no problem doing for others just because that is how I was raised. I like helping people. Usually I hope for a decent response. Usually you don’t get one. Que sera, sera. Today that kind of changed for me.

Got a phone call from a friend who became a client. I have known him for 12 years. We always got along. He tried to help my son when he started college. He took an hour out of his schedule just to talk with him. This is a pretty senior guy here so an hour is truly worth something.

When he left I kept in touch just because he is a good person. I helped him with design needs for his new company. No biggie what I do for almost anybody. He helped me so I help him. Very simple.

Anyways he calls me today and asks if I’m going to be around the house (we live 10 minutes from each other – 10 very distant minutes get it.). I say yeah I’m outside doing some yard work. He says he’ll be by in 15 minutes.

He pulls up and asks me over to the car. I walk over with him and he hands me an Apple shopping bag. I tell him good move you’re going to need it. He says not me – you. This is yours brother. He hands me a new 64GB iPad ready to go. He says I thought who else really deserves one?

Basically I had to sit down.

It is not about the iPad it is never about the hardware. It is always about the software – in this case truly decent people. It is not about the gift it is about the thought.

First thing I looked up online – meaning of friendship. I was expecting his picture. I guess I’ll have to edit that in on Wikipedia.

Don’t give up. There are still decent people out there.

Sent from my iPad:) – Just kidding I’m still just looking at the box in disbelief.

My wife is wondering who could possibly think this much of him?
