In last night’s IMA 504 class we were discussing the transitional times that we live in as far as the web and use of it is concerned. The factor that commerce is going online at a rapid rate is just an indication of the economic swing that is in effect. The Dow Jones is at an all time low for the past seven years. Industries are not sure how to manage their business in these times. Where will the next order come from and where will it have to be shipped?

The flux that is taking place is astronomical. Main streets are shutting down in favor of online shopping. Jobs are being lost at an all time high level. Outsourcing is key. Where will the next jobs come from? As Interactive Designers you need to ask these questions and stay abreast of the swings in the overall economic marketplace. Where will you be working and how much will you have to do? What will be your job description? What will be your responsibilities? Will you be involved in shipping an order? Will you be involved in product development, certainly the expediting of those products and services. What part of your job will be information architecture or design or programming?

You need to see the big picture in these transitional times. where will you fit in? How will you plan your career path? What will be your job in the next five years? All of these things are moving faster than ever in these ever changing transitional times.
